We love this series produced by Loop, this time following Emilie Björkman in the Dolomites, right on our doorstep (compared to all the previous episodes), so we feel more connected — these are rivers that look like the ones we know. And above all, this film shows us an accessible dream, without having to spend a month’s salary to go fishing on the other side of the world! And it pairs so perfectly with the sandwich we posted on Saturday… or the fly fishing in Treviso session from the day before!

Want our take on it? Italy is fast becoming THE European destination. The rivers and the fish in them are better managed than elsewhere, the food is excellent, the guides are top-notch, there’s plenty to do beyond fishing, the countryside is beautiful, you can soak up some culture when you’re not on the water. You can fish practically everywhere, across all regions, from the Alps to Sicily! In short, we love Italy and the Dolomites — on top of fishing, if that’s your thing, you can also go climbing or head back in winter to ski!
Here’s what’s in store for you: you’re heading to the Dolomites with Emilie, and that’s just the beginning! You’ll have the incredible chance to fish alongside Mauro Mazzo — a true fly fishing legend, co-author with Yvon Chouinard of Pheasant Tail Simplicity and Simple Fly Fishing — as well as top guide Stefano Fedrizzi.
Are you ready? You’re in for an absolute treat!

” In episode 7 of Loop’s fly fishing series: Wild Fish / Wild Places with Emilie Björkman, she kicks off the northern hemisphere fly fishing season in the Italian Dolomites. She’s targeting the marble trout – Salmo marmoratus – when the first few weeks of spring give fly fishers a better chance of catching this elusive fish. Emilie teams up with her Italian friends, all-round fly fishing genius Mauro Mazzo and top guide Stefano Fedrizzi, getting an introduction to Mauro’s preferred nymph fishing technique – “the mono”, while battling the rough conditions that come with early season fishing. She also talks to trout specialist and ichthyologist Pierpaolo Gibertoni, as they travel through the area in search of this spectacular fish that can reach over 20 kilos in weight. Does she find the elusive marble? Watch the episode to find out. “
