Here’s a portrait of the kind of guy we wish we ran into more often: Tanguy, obsessed with fly fishing and, by extension, obsessed with what fish eat and how to cook up little dishes so irresistible the fish literally can’t say no — all so we can have fun catching them! Because the whole game is about getting inside the head of a trout (or any fish, really) and asking yourself what you’d want to sink your teeth into. Yeah, because trout are lazy as hell. They’re opportunists — they don’t want to work any harder than they have to, don’t want to burn energy fighting the current, so they tuck in behind a rock, safe and sound, and chase off anyone who tries to steal their spot. Or they hang out under the tree cover and eat whatever falls in from above. Bottom line: the key to having fun is watching what’s flying around or what’s in the water, and once you’ve figured it out, serving it up on a platter with all the lazy nonchalance of a bug drifting along with the current. Other than food, the only thing trout put any effort into is sex and reproduction. Pretty simple animal when you think about it — no need to overthink the whole thing!
Anyway, you can find Tanguy’s killer flies RIGHT HERE, and if you watch this film, you’ll be rushing straight over — because yeah, this guy’s really got fish figured out!
