Central New York brown trout.

For many, New York is New York City — the city itself. But New York State is fantastic for fly fishing! Acidic soils blanketed with oaks, pines and rhododendrons, dotted with chains of lakes and small streams or human-scale rivers that wind through the middle, all absolutely — as we say back home — “loaded with fish”! My wife being a New Yorker, I’ve often gone fishing for browns or rainbows, particularly around Roscoe, on the Beaverkill. And it’s also the stomping grounds of our friend Flechmuller, who has fished there a great deal as well! Anyway, to cut a long story short, when I came across this film about fishing for wild browns in Central New York, I just couldn’t resist!

With Spring in full swing and water levels in great shape took advantage of a beautiful spring afternoon to hike down to one of my favorite wild brown trout fisheries witht the flyrod. The mayflies were hatching, the scenery was gorgeous and I managed to bring a few nice trout to the net.
