With Vancouver Island behind them, Aimee and Chase Bartee point their Toyota Tundra north through British Columbia, beginning the long push toward Alaska. But progress comes slowly – a fast-moving wildfire forces them back onto the road, an unexpected encounter with a local carver turns into a hands-on lesson in Indigenous art and storytelling, and a detour through the nearly deserted border town of Hyder leads them high into the mountains for their first close encounter with a glacier.
As they continue north along the Cassiar Highway and into the Yukon, the landscape begins to change. Coastal mountains give way to boreal forest, the summer sun stretches deep into the night, and crossing into Arctic drainages opens an entirely new world of fish. For Aimee and Chase, that means finally encountering one of the species they have traveled thousands of miles hoping to see: Arctic grayling.
Part overland travelogue, part natural-history film, TIGHT LOOPS | TWO IN THE NORTH follows Aimee and Chase as they search for native fish, add new birds to their life lists, tread unfamiliar water, and document the landscapes and wildlife that draw them further and further north. Their route is intentionally loose, leaving space for difficult conditions, wrong turns, hard-earned discoveries, and the kind of encounters that can’t be planned from behind a screen.
