We learned the sad news earlier this week of the death of Sly Dumbar, drummer for Sly & Robbie, a few years after the death of his alter ego Robbie Shakespear, the bassist. Sly & Robbie were THE rythm machine of reggae, bringing a unique sound to music around the world since the early 1980s. Everyone called on them, from Gainsbourg to Peter Tosh, and all reggae artists sought out their bass and drums, which brought a rhythm like no other.
