When trout start bulking up for winter, the best move is to fish somewhere with plenty of them, decent weather, good food, and gorgeous scenery. Slovenia checks every box. Sure, there’ll always be some guys telling you “it was better back in the day” or “that’s bathtub fishing,” but the truth is: if you’re a beginner, you’re going to get hooked, and if you’re an old hand, you’re going to have a blast like a kid again! Bottom line — come fall, there aren’t many destinations this fun to fish, and Slovenia, the Balkans in general, plus Spain and Italy, are all on that short list.
