Mouching List #15

Spring is here and you’re going to head out as much as possible to the waterside — May and June are a godsend for fishing! So here’s a little selection of the week.

Patagonia Swifcurrent Wading Jacket. Here’s the new version of the Patagonia Swiftcurrent Wading Jacket — we’re putting it online today because it’s truly among the top rain jackets out there. It’s ideal for staying dry in spring showers, but you’ll also wear it year-round, because it’s simply a must-have! It will keep you dry during summer storms, and you’ll keep it in winter for grayling season with, for example, an R2 underneath, so you don’t freeze! Two large zippered pockets for your fly boxes (for instance), and two hand-warmer pockets, also zippered and positioned high enough to stay dry while wading! Waist adjustment, waterproof cuffs (to keep your forearms dry) and an adjustable hood for real protection! Comes in 4 colors, Blue Sage, River Rock Green, Forge Grey or Utility Blue (last one on sale) (also available in blue for women in Thermal Blue or River Rock Green). 419$. (Don’t forget the Patagonia guarantee — probably the best out there, as it’s lifetime…)

Loop Flyt UPF Hoodie At Loop (whose new Trak rods we featured last week) there’s more than just rods and reels — there’s also clothing, like these UPF Hoodies, which are cool and will protect you from the sun (our worst enemy). And since it’s a brand from the Far North… they know what they’re talking about! It will also protect you from insects thanks to the hood! Available in 3 colors, and we’re particularly fond of the khaki one! around 75$

Orvis Tippet Holder Rather than having your spools for tying leaders stuffed at the bottom of a pocket in your bag while you’re fishing, why not clip on this Orvis spool holder, which can hold up to 7 tippet spools (way more than you actually need — we personally only carry 3 or 4 at most: 7X, 6X, 5X and possibly 4X if you need to rebuild everything from scratch… Anyway, since it comes with an attachment system — either a ring or a carabiner — you can clip it wherever you want to keep it within easy reach (that’s the whole point)… your waders, your bag, your suspenders… 28$ in blue or green.

Vision Acqua Wader Bag Perfect for carrying your waders and boots (and the mushrooms you find while wandering around!). Well-ventilated so your gear can dry out, and deep enough to fit everything in! The bottom of the bag is waterproof so you can set it down without water getting everywhere! But it’s just for transport, mind you — if you leave your waders inside, there’s a good chance they’ll end up smelling like a wet dog. You can also use it as an everyday tote bag! 85$

Timex Watch Expedition Capston Nice, tough and cheap! Waht else would you like as awatch? Basicaly when you go fishing you just want to know the time, all the rest you find it on your phone and you have many pockets to keep it dry! What you need on your wrist is to be able to tell yourself “Oh it’s already 8pm I have to walk back before it gets dark”! Or “Hey guys, it’s noon, let’s have a sandwich”! Or even “Hmm I like my watch”! So there you go this is the one we like. It’s 39mm so it’s not too smal and you won’t have the feeling of carrying an alarme clock at your wrist, it’ Quartz, so change the battery when you need (lasts several years), there’s the date, it’s luminescent so you see it in the dark and it’s light so you’ll forget it! Oh, it’s waterproof till 50m, enough for you to get you hand in the water to release your fish! And the glass is mineral crystal so it’s tough. And last but not least: it’s cheap! 140$

Redington Butter Stick Fly Rod, It’s one of the rods we like best when it comes to small streams. The rod itself is smooth and forgives a lot of mistakes when casting, but it’s also fast enough to get your fly where you want in thos pocket of waters in small streams, when your fly only is attractive on a couple of feet, sometimes less. You need accuracy and a rod that is not a like a spaghetti when you fight the fish! Comes in 3 lenghts : 8’wt5, 7.6’wt4 and 7’wt3, all 4 pieces. 330$
