We LOVE The Mission Mag, they are somewhat our cousins from South Africa, and Tudor, who holds the reins of the team, is a friend who always inspires us with his commitment to fly fishing but also in the way he sees things in general!
They have posted articles recently where, sadly, due to the global situation, we can no longer go fishing: Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, Yemen, Oman… destinations we wouldn’t necessarily visit, but the mere fact that global politics blocks access frustrates our idea of the absolute freedom that all fly fishermen seek when they head to the water’s edge. In short… we’re in a bind, and often because of autocrats who are not unlike the Roman emperors… let us beware, for Caesar was the first, followed by a cohort of unhinged rulers: Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius and Nero, who are not without reminding us of the perpetually irritated one with the orange complexion. And we haven’t even mentioned Russia, once a playground whether on the Kola Peninsula or in Kamchatka…
Iran : Prince of Persia
Cuba and Venezuela : “Evil Empire”
Long way home : Yemen
Here’s for your regrets… let us hope the list doesn’t grow any longer, and once again thank you to The Mission Mag for your amazing work!
