When I arrived in Paris in ’92, I was coming from nowhereland in the countryside and I had already set up a radio station in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence that was playing everything but mainstream, from Jazz to salsa and lots of tropical music. It was in the mid 80’s hip hop culture was coming to France and we had an open door to it.
So I landed at Radio Nova right in the middle of its golden age… I was doing sound production, but there was a guy with a magic ear who handled the programming alongside his alter ego Gilb’R — that was Loïk Dury! The guy wore his heart on his sleeve and had an incredible ear! If you ever get the chance to listen to him (beyond the soundtracks of TV series like Call My Agent or the audio branding of France Inter), you’ll thank us for putting you on the trail!
In any case, I want to thank him for those years where we had a blast — and above all for having had the luck of enjoying so much freedom!
