YETI LIKES CARP

It’s not every day that we talk about species protection and major Outdoor brands, even though it should be a requirement. Of course, there is one brand more than any other that cares about the planet, but it’s not the one that caught our attention today, it’s YETI, “the brand renowned for its coolers and thermoses that we take with us, everywhere.”

Here, Yeti got involved in the rescue of rare Carp from Lake Llyngwyn in central Wales. These carp were introduced 600 years ago by monks and the breed remained intact until the lake’s waters were threatened by intensive chicken farming near the lake, which polluted the springs that feed it. As a result, the aquatic food chain collapsed, the fish were starving and had to be moved to temporary refuges. So, Yeti pitched in and handed over £3,000 to Wild Carp Trust in order to build two ponds and a trailer dedicated to transporting the carp!

The chairman of the board of the Wild Carp Trust, lProfessor Nigel Hudson, stated: ‘The Llyngwyn strain of carp is perhaps the oldest and rarest in the United Kingdom. It has survived for 600 years but, like much of the natural world, it is immediately threatened by modern human activity.

“‘We were able to relocate and care for half of the carp population, including the youngest and most vulnerable. This represents 1,000 fry, of which 99% would have died, and 500 of their broodstock that could have starved to death. This is a major conservation achievement — the most significant in our association’s history — thanks to the attention and generosity of YETI.”

Thank you.

Merci.
