BUFFET SERIES – EPISODE #1

Well, as we wait for trout’s opening season, we’re thrilled to announce the new season of Buffet Series.

And yes, it’s already season 5 of this series by Gilbert Rowley. And I’ll be honest with you, this episode really speaks to me. And for good reason!! For starters, it was filmed in the fall, my favorite season. I don’t know why, but I’ve always loved this time of year. I find it relaxing and also absolutely gorgeous. The leaves on the trees take on a beautiful reddish-orange hue, and sometimes snow even makes an appearance to treat us to simply magnificent landscapes bursting with color. But that’s not all. It also marks the end of the fishing season in our Savoyard departments (French Alps – Chamonix). And generally, the fish are definitely there and super active. The trout are stocking up on food before spawning. I remember when I took Cyril and Baptiste fishing near my home. The sun had just peeked out, warming the air. It was time for me to tie a grasshopper imitation (the other reason this video resonates with me) to the end of my leader as they watched with amusement. It didn’t take long for a small trout to strike it with fury, breaking the surface of the water. Very quickly, they asked me if I had any more lying around in my box. The rest of the day was spent catching fish one after another until the sun disappeared behind the mountains. We resigned ourselves to switching back to nymphs. And we took the opportunity to enjoy some Big Mountain, a great local beer I’d brought along for the occasion.

So, as you can see, here’s Gilbert Rowley in the fall, catching massive trout with those darn grasshoppers. Fun guaranteed.
