I stumbled on this film in the middle of the night, jolted awake by storms that dumped what felt like several weeks’ worth of rain on us in just a few minutes \u2014 but really wreaked havoc further north in the Massif Central, where all the canceled Bastille Day’s fireworks got more than made up for by the sheer amount of lightning. Except that also meant no power, wild squalls, trees down everywhere\u2026 basically, total chaos!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


<\/strong>But that stormy night turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because it’s how I discovered this film \u2014 a moving portrait of Jorge Tut, his story of arriving at 17 from the heart of the Yucatan, seeing the ocean for the very first time, and how hunger and the chase for dollars first pushed him to become an assistant guide\u2026 until love, passion, and a fascination with fly fishing took over, bringing him peace and serenity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A hell of a film where every single one of us can find something to relate to!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jorge Ariel Angulo Tut grew up on a small farm out in rural Mexico. At 17, he stepped onto a boat headed for a remote fly fishing lodge in the middle of nowhere \u2014 he’d never seen the ocean, couldn’t swim, and had never even heard of fly fishing. Twenty-five years later, he owns and runs Blacksmith Lodge, one of the most respected fly fishing operations in Mexico.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
