On the Aude’s headwaters, under the snow.<\/h2>\n

The Aude river? Again?<\/span><\/p>\n

No guys, I am not obsessed\u00a0with\u00a0this river.<\/span>\u00a0but I hate not to catch fish\u00a0on a river!\u00a0<\/span>I’m a bit stubborn and I can’t let go\u00a0(which is\u00a0not always an asset).\u00a0<\/span>So, once again we went for a day with Phillipe (a friend of mine), betwen Axat and Quillan and…… we were empty handed again!\u00a0<\/span>We just caugth two fish but they got loose.<\/span><\/p>\n

I told\u00a0myself there were\u00a0thousands of reasons for us not to catch anything, probably not the best\u00a0conditions to fish. I’m only\u00a0looking for some excuses not to feel like s%#t.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now\u00a0it’s spring break!\u00a0<\/span>With my family we spend it all\u00a0in the “Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es Orientales”, South West of France, and \u00a0of course I bring my\u00a0fishing gear\u00a0along.\u00a0<\/span>I know that there are\u00a0some nice rivers up there, among them the\u00a0“Aude”river, the same one that flows by my house but high up in the headwaters.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, it\u00a0was “family holidays” so I had\u00a0to negociate my fishing time with my wife otherwise\u00a0I would get into trouble. We had a deal: when if the\u00a0weather gets\u00a0bad, I could go fishing.\u00a0<\/span>Friday morning, I wake up, it’s only 33\u00b0F, it’s snowing and there’s fog. After few coffees, I decided to go to the No kill of Villeneuve des Formigueres.\"formigueres\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Come on, let’s\u00a0go!<\/span><\/p>\n

After driving more than an hour, I’m on the nokill part of the river, I park and then I realize the low temperatures.\u00a0No matter what I’m not down here to sit in the car. I gear up, get my rod together, tie up a new tippet, and an elk caddis and go!<\/span>At that point, I’m really frozen, I hardly feel the tip of my fingers but there I was, waiting for some action on the river.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some fish start to rise, I don’t really see what the trout are feeding on but I dont want to change my fly. I cast my caddis in the current and Bang! I set the hook. It’s a small trout, maybe one or two years old.\"1ou2<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

I’m back at it, same fly same current. Another one, a little bigger. I tell myself I’m going to have an awesome day. Snows starts to fall, every cast gets a fish!\u00a0<\/span>After an hour and a half, I a dozen trout landed in y net, all caught with the same kind of fly.\u00a0<\/span>I’m frozen t the bone but I’m so happy. It’s a \u00a0beautiful mountain stream in an amazing landscape.<\/span><\/p>\n

You thought I was\u00a0done with the Aude river?\u00a0<\/span>Didn’t I tell you I was stubborn?\u00a0<\/span>So I went back to the upper Aude valley, not far from\u00a0Quillan.<\/span><\/p>\n

In between two clients, at work, I managed to catch a few grayling and trout on nymph.\u00a0<\/span>They could\u00a0not resist my pheasant tail and my perdigones.\"type<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The Aude river is not an easy river but if you insist there is enough fish in it to have a great day!\"perseverant\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
